Justin Bieber: Good or Bad?

By Merlin Montes

We all remember the good ‘ol days where Justin Bieber’s, “Baby” rocked radio-waves from which he gathered a large fan following for his luscious locks and modulated voice. Unfortunately though, over the years the famed “Biebz” has had many conflicts with the law, all preventable and all  worsened by his attitude. Whether it is a DUI that he resisted arrest for or stealing the memory card of a paparazzi, Justin Bieber has made more than a few mistakes under the intense spotlight that have been used as lessons and teaching points for the general public and more specifically his audience. And in spite of all that, his fans have remained by his side.

However, it doesn’t seem like the feeling is always mutual. There have been multiple occasions in which he has blatantly mistreated his fans from muttering “You guys suck” while in Norway for his Purpose Tour to rejecting a hug from a fan in a New York Barney’s store, leaving his fans to silently plead, “What did we do wrong?” Later, in an Insta-rant, Justin explained that, “If you happen to see me out somewhere, know that I‘m not not gonna take a picture I’m done taking pictures. It has gotten to the point that people won’t even say hi to me or recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity.” He continued on by saying, “I wanna enjoy life and not be a slave to the world and their demands of what they think I need to do!!”  Understandable, right? Well, luckily his fans thought so too and once again stuck by his side.

While that is great and all, it leaves outsiders to this fanaticism wondering, “What’s so great about him?” Mainly it’s because in spite of all these aforementioned occurrences, Justin truly appreciates his fans supporting him and always being there for him throughout everything, and he has definitely shown his appreciation in more ways than one.

Over the course of Bieber’s twenty two years of his life is, accompanied by the famed Ellen DeGeneres and Rob Lowe, he has donated money to a Spain Elementary-Middle School in Detroit to have a chance and rebuild a better school environment for the students. That’s not all. He has also surprised superfans on multiple occasions, the most heart-touching incident being when he showed up to the doorstep of a young boy with Down Syndrome named Noah and consequently bringing everyone that beared witness to tears, including himself. It is within instances like this that show the sweet side of this notorious bad boy that makes it hard for his fans to resist, but is simultaneously why the debate of “Is he good or bad?” still remains.
