CIF is Back!

By Tori De La Vega

A big congratulations is in order for our varsity teams here at Tustin High, such as the girls water polo and boys and girls basketball teams, for making it to CIF! CIF is a program in which high school sports teams throughout California partake in order to compete with the highest and most competitive athletes.

Girls water polo plays today, February 13, at 3pm at Webbs High School. If our varsity girls beat this team, they will have the opportunity to advance to the second round of CIF. Webbs’ overall record is 14-12, while their league record is 5-3. Tustin’s record, being 11-10 with a league record of 3-2, definitely carries the potential to beat this high school.  Webbs High School, located in Claremont, about 45 minutes away, is predicted to be a “tough game” up against our girls polo team and we wish the best of luck to them today.

Varsity boys are also playing on February 14 against Rancho Mirage. The record for their overall season is  22-6, while league record is 9-1. Our Tillers will have a tough fight against this team, and we hope that nothing but the best comes out of their hard work that they have shown throughout the entire season.

Tustin boys basketball team has managed to maintain a record of 14-12 overall and a 7-4 record for league. Rancho Mirage has had multiple games in which the scores have gone to triple digits, however by playing passionately, along with playing good defense, the Tillers hope mitigate these numbers.

Lastly, on February 15, girls varsity basketball will advance to the first round of CIF against Edison High School. Edison High School’s record overall is 16-10 and has a league record of 8-2, while our tillers have a record of 17-9 and a league record of 7-3. To say this will be a good game would definitely be an understatement, due to the slight similarities in both records. However, we can’t forget the fact that Edison currently has 2 players who are above six feet, making the fight for round two all the more difficult for the Tillers.

No matter the results, we wish the best of luck to all the athletes and coaches in representing our Tiller pride throughout the course of these next few days.
