On Friday, November 11, the Tillers took on the Huntington Beach Oilers in the first round of CIF playoffs. All night fans heard Mr. Martyn’s recognizable voice hollering through the speakers, “KC Carr, touchdown Tillers.” They heard it six times to be exact, as Carr (#3) scored all six of the Tillers’ touchdowns.

Carr is used to scoring a lot of touchdowns but not quite in the way he scored on this night. Carr totaled 192 yards rushing on 29 carries and 3 touchdowns. He added to his stats by hauling in a beautifully thrown Sagel Simon (#2) pass for a 27 yard touchdown. Carr also came up big on the defensive side of the game, scooping up a fumble and returning it 43 yards for a touchdown. He secured the victory with 1:24 left in the game by returning an interception 69 yards in the opposite direction for a touchdown. This final score put the Tillers up 42-27 and crushed any comeback hopes Huntington Beach had. If Carr is able to replicate even half of the game he had last week, the Tillers will be in a good position to continue their success.

With this win, the Tillers advanced to the second round of CIF playoffs. The Tillers will play the San Gorgonio Spartans who are coming off of a dominant 49-27 victory over South Hills High School. The Tillers will be at home in Northrup Stadium on Friday to try and beat the Spartans.  If the Tillers win this game they will go on to play the winner of the Golden Valley vs El Segundo game.

Make sure to catch another exciting game of Tiller football this Friday, as the boys in black continue their fight for the CIF title.
