On Friday April 18, Tony Barrios led the Tillers’ Varsity baseball team into an Empire League battle against the Cypress Centurions. Barrios and Cypress’ pitcher engaged in a pitching duel, each not allowing a single run until the top of the seventh when Cypress scored the game clinching run. Cypress’ pitcher pitched exceptionally tossing a complete game shutout allowing only two hits; hitting a batter and striking out 4. Barrios on the other hand, pitched a dandy allowing a single run on three hits striking out two and walking two. The Tillers had multiple opportunities to get on the board, but overly aggressive base running cost them, as they were thrown out at the plate twice. This loss drops the Tillers to 0-2 in league. Both losses coming at the hands of Cypress and both only one run losses. Tustin looks for redemption in their upcoming game against Valencia on Wednesday at home. Come out and support the varsity Tillers on their road to qualifying for CIF.
