Author Profile: Howard Taylor

Howard Taylor, born February 29th of 1968 in Florida, is a talented artist and writer. He is the creator of the Schlock Mercenary webcomic series, which was nominated for the Hugo award. Howard graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree music composition, of which he used to start up a independent record label. For a while, Howard worked at Novell Incorporated, a software and services company, but quit to create comics full time.

His most well known webcomic, Schlock Mercenary debuted in the 12th of June in 2000. For the past 15 years, Howard has published a daily webcomic making his series one of the longest running webcomics in history. The series underwent a revamp as Howard published the 1000th strip of Schlock Mercenary ,“re-launching” the series by organizing future comic strips into large cohesive plots. Howard’s comic series continues to this day and has reached over 6000 installments.

In addition to his webcomic, this illustrator has published a few books of his own including the duo series Space Eldritch I and II.  Howard also co-hosts a weekly podcast called Writing Excuses along with fellow authors Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, and Mary Robinette Kowal, where he provides insightful advice to writers and illustrators in need.
