Tustin Defeats Uni Despite Comeback Attempt

By Benjamin Rodriguez

Last night, Tustin’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team looked to get their season off to a 2-0 start against the University High School Trojans. The Tillers defeated Valencia 9-6 in their first game of preseason.

The Tillers got off to a hot start against University, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game. Senior captain Matthew Gaddis (#44) scored the second goal in the first minute, showing how dominant of a team the Tillers could be.

The Tillers’ Jim Garcia (#3) lead the game in goals, notching a hat trick with a goal to spare. Ramon Melendez (#0) played diligently, saving a multitude of shots on goal, not allowing a single goal fall on the net. The Tillers didn’t trail once throughout the game, only letting University knot the game up twice. Going into halftime, the Tillers lead 5-4 after University fought their way back.

The third quarter started and Tustin put up 4 scores, only surrendering 1 to University in a third quarter dominated by the Tillers. However, the fourth quarter only saw one Tiller goal and three Trojan goals. But luckily for the Tillers, this effort was a little too late, as the Trojans fell to the mighty Tillers 10-8.
