Successful Send Off for Boys’ Basketball

By Katelyn Merrell

Despite an upsetting loss to Western the previous Friday, the Tiller’s varsity basketball squad came out ready to play and compete in their senior night game against Kennedy High School. With their peers, family, and friends in the audience, the boys were “fired up” and ready to prove themselves, despite the disparagement of this year’s team.

The seniors honored Tuesday night were Deon Faaseu (#4), Phillip Solofa (#44), Cody Kuzay (#10), Hasani Shabazz (#1), and Anthony Salazar (#33).

“My favorite part of the season was getting a lot of minutes and winning the games that we won,” explained varsity starter Hasani Shabazz.

Going out with a bang, Deon Faaseu (#4) dropped 13 points and 3 assists that night, making a statement during his last home game of his high school career. Hasani Shabazz (#1) also played exceptionally, scoring 13 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. The Tillers ultimately defeated the Irish 46-35, successfully competing in one of their best played games this season.

Last night, the Tiller’s also won their last game of the season against the Pacifica Tigers 45-35. Hasani Shabazz led the night with 15 points and 8 rebounds, along with Haakon Ullrich scoring 12 points 15 rebounds. Although the Tillers did not qualify for CIF, they ended their season strong and their season with a 4-6 season record. Tustin is proud of our boys’ basketball team and all the effort and hard work they put in this year.
