Bingewatch Your Way Through V-Day

As Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, plans of dates, bouquets, and Costco teddy bears are in the air, but for some of us single guys and gals this is day of universal bitterness. Instead of all these plans, we opt for the cliché idea of eating an entire pizza and binge-watching Netflix. But knowing which show to dedicate hours on end to can be a daunting task. No worries, below are some happy, light-hearted shows to stay cheery during this dreaded day.

Freaks and Geeks

This show focuses on the geek-turned-freak Lindsay Weir ( Linda Cardellini) and all the freaky adventures and mishaps of her teenage life in Detroit, Michigan, accompanied by her new clique portrayed by stars including Jason Segel, James Franco, and Seth Rogen. But to give the viewer a look at the life she left behind, the viewer also follows the life of her geeky younger brother Sam (John Francis Daley) who throughout the show is known for his love of video games and popular cheerleader, Cindy Sanders. Both characters continually face the wrath of high school life with each of their star-studded bands of friends by their sides to show two different perspectives. And although this show only lasted one season, it more than makes up for it with the quirky characters, witty jokes, and unique plotlines, making it the perfect show to lift spirits on Valentine’s Day.

Parks and Recreation

In this feel-good comedy centered around the lives of the employees of Pawnee, Indiana’s Parks and Recreation Department, eccentric characters deal with the problems surrounding this suburbia. The overachieving main character Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) who’s passion for fixing her beloved hometown definitely makes her stand out among the cast. This isn’t to say to other characters, including stars like Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, and Nick Offerman, don’t contribute to fun the show in their unique way. Collectively, almost everyone is doing something humorous the entire duration of any one episode, bound to make the viewer laugh every five seconds. The show, which has 7 seasons all available on Netflix, will instantly brighten one’s Valentine’s Day.

New Girl

Centered around songbird middle school English teacher, Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel), who moves into a Los Angeles loft with three other guys (Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Jake Johnson), there is destined to be some adventures and mishaps. Together the group takes on life in the city, one with relationships, careers, and many rounds of their self-titled game “True American.” All of this and more can be seen in 4 seasons which can be readily binge-watched on Netflix this coming Valentine’s Day.  

 

Each of these shows can instantly boost the viewer’s happiness with their comedic fashion and relatable characters. from Ron Swanson’s stern personality to Daniel Desario’s bad boy charm, you’re bound your next binge-worthy show for Valentine’s Day. 

So go order that Papa John’s and just as Tom Haverford says, “Treat yo’ self”.
