On January 13, Tustin varsity wrestling went head to head with Cypress. Tustin entered the mat with an amazing and dramatic intro, as they stormed into the gym. The match began with Enick Clayton, who wrestled in the 106 pound weight class, and was unfortunately pinned in the first round. Up next, Tustin sent Jared Castorena, who wrestled in the 120 pound weight class, into battle and was pinned in the third round. Up next in the series of upsetting losses, Tustin’s Jack Galleger, who wrestled in the 132 pound weight class, also lost due to Technical Fall, which is when a wrestler’s opponent gets ahead by 15 points. Next up was Tustin’s 138 pounder, Noah Lennard who lost by pin.

Following Noah, was Asics Tournament champion Andrew Longmore, who was wrestling in the 145 pound weight class. Longmore successfully got his routine pin in the second round winning the match. We commend Andrew for his standout victory for the Tillers that day. After the champion Longmore’s match, Tustin’s Giovani Segura, wrestling in the 152 pound weight class, took down and pinned his opponent in the first round. Shortly after, Tustin’s Sergio Cazeras went head to head with a wrestler who constantly attempted to slip him into the inescapable cradle. However, Cazeras efforts were futile. He lost by one point after his opponent escaped his grasp. After Sergio, the Tiller’s Johnny Vargas, who was in the 170 pound weight class, was cradled the final four seconds of his first round. Up next, 182 pounder, Carlos Garcia was pinned to the floor in the second round and 195 pounder, Gustavo Moreno lost by Technical Fall.

Tustin’s final wrestler was 220 pounder, Dylan Torres, who received leg injuries in the first round. Tustin’s onsite nurse rushed to him and got him to relax and he was back up in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, Torres was unable to finish the match.

The result of the dual between Tustin and Cypress resulted in the tillers losing 12-67. However, the Tustin Tillers refuse to give up in an attempt to come out victorious in future duels.
