On Friday, January 8, the Tustin Boys’ Basketball team lost by 7 points to the Savanna Rebels at Savanna’s home court in overtime.
The Rebels held their lead throughout the whole game and were conducted by Senior guard, Mark Butler, who dropped 39 points on the Tillers. The Tillers did not have one efficient scorer but they caught up to the Rebels as a team.
At the start of the forth quarter, the Rebels went on a 15-4 run, to extend their lead against the visiting team. But the Tillers were not out of the game. The Tillers went on a 10-0 run, lead by Senior forward Hasani Shabazz, to take the lead by two.
25 seconds were remaining in regulation, and the Rebel’s had the last possession. The Rebel’s moved the ball around and found Senior guard, Enrique Quinonez to make a last second lay up over 6’5 Junior center, Haakon Urlich to put the game into overtime.
The Tillers seemed to have the game in their favor until the sophomore guards, Isiah Moorehouse and Sagel Simon, fouled out in regulation and overtime. After the talented duo fouled out of the game, the team struggled with scoring points and limiting turn overs. The Tillers allowed the Rebels to score 15 unanswered points in over time and allowed them to snatch the win. Moorehouse stated, “We had the game in our hands and we let them take the win from us.”
The Tillers are now 6-10 and will start League on Tuesday, January 12. They will be playing at Cypress and will hopefully capture their first win since Dec. 30, 2015.
