Varsity Baseball’s Most Anticipated Game

By Jocelyn Cervantes

On Wednesday April 22nd, The Tustin Tillers took on the defending back to back champions, Cypress High School. Starters for the game were Dalton Rasmussen (pitching), David Bohorquez (catching), Blake Akins (first base), Brian Nguyen (second base), Austyn Tengan (third base), Anthony Walters (shortstop), Myles Thompson (left field), Dailin Lee (center field), and Dustin Durand (right field).

Although Lee was able to land himself on third base in the first, no runs were scored for the Tillers, but they held their front on the offense as Cypress struggled to score.

The Tillers struggled with hitting, giving Cypress the chance to advance their score. Cypress scored in the second, three in the fourth, and three more in the seventh. Cypress took the win 7-0. Last season, the Tillers lost their home game against Cypress 8-3, but bounced back and defeated Cypress at their away game 12-3. If this year is anything like last year, the Tillers will bounce back on Friday’s away game against Cypress.

Senior, Dustin Durand commented after the game, “The fact that they’re back to back Empire League champions didn’t change anything for me. They’re still a team; they’re just like us. I feel like we’re more talented than them but today they got the better of us. We’ll get them next time. They’re nothing special.”
