Over the weekend, both lady and gentlemen Tillers managed to advance into the second round of their CIF Division Playoff Bracket. Today, Boys’ basketball meets San Clemente once more while Girls’ basketball challenges Hart on Wednesday night.

Boys’ basketball is in for a redemption game against San Clemente. The San Clemente Tritons went undefeated in their league as well as Tustin. Maxpreps places Tustin as the third seed in the Division 1AA CIF Bracket while San Clemente is seeded 16th. However, one of Tustin’s only losses in their record this season went to the Tritons. The loss happened over a pre-season tournament which determined if Tustin would advance to the championship round. Unfortunately, Tustin did not advance, but placed third in the tournament. San Clemente placed second after losing first place to Esperanza.

San Clemente’s basketball website published an article capturing an overview of the intensity of this game. However, this article only points out three of our players due to individual statistics. Among them: TJ Shorts, George Wilson, and Myles Garvin. “San Clemente has seven players who have averaged more than that,” is a reference made to Tustin’s individual scoring averages. It also argues that “the Tritons play a more challenging schedule” when it comes to Tustin being ranked fifth as opposed to their twelfth standing. The Tritons are looking to prove that their semifinal winning game was not a “fluke” while Tustin battles to prove them wrong.

Girls’ basketball faces a familiar opponent from last year’s CIF Boys’ basketball quarter-final game– Hart High School of Newhall. In Division 2A, Hart is seeded second. Although the Lady Tillers successfully pulled the upset over El Modena Saturday night. Both Hart and Tustin played similar first round CIF games: Tustin outscored El Modena 72 to 47, while Hart outscored Moopark 71 to 50. Gocke’s Dream Team hopes to deliver a “Hart-breaking” game Wednesday night.

Both games will have rooter busses for students who wish to attend the games this week. Permission slips are available in the front office.
