The Maze Runner: Running to Success

On September 19, 2014 theaters presented “The Maze Runner,” and surprisingly it made a huge box office hit with a total of 73 million dollars in sales. Wes Ball directed this Sci-Fi Thriller.  He’s not well known because he only made two films throughout his career. Luckily, we’ll be able to see his name on the big screen once again with his new movie The Scorch Trails coming out in 2015, a continuing sequel of “The Maze Runner.”  “The Maze Runner” wouldn’t be complete without the lead actor. Dylan O’Brien, who played the main character, Thomas, was an interesting choice for his role in “The Maze Runner.” Dylan O’Brien starred in many movies and T.V. shows. One of the most popular is Teen Wolf. His original outgoing character landed him a role of being a confused, serious, and ambitious teenager who must complete a maze filled with spider-like machines that kill anyone who dares to enter.

We see Thomas first when he is lifted up from an elevator-like box surrounded by unknown faces. Next, an all-male group surviving in the middle of the maze face difficulties outside their area. Sadly, Thomas’s memory has been tampered with along with all the other all-male group members. Now they have to survive not only physically, but mentally.

What’s interesting about this movie is the backstory– Earth is chaotic when there’s a major heatwave causing people throughout the world to live away from the scorching surface. An organization called W.I.C.K.E.D. convinces the higher ups to test the ability of a group of teenagers in a dire situation, a maze. W.I.C.K.E.D. claims that the teenagers are the key to bringing back life as it used to be. They will take any risk necessary to complete their mission, even sacrificing each other in a deadly maze. The ending caught everyone off guard.  We will have to find out next time what happens when they finally complete the maze. Overall the movie “The Maze Runner” is worth watching, but not worth buying. Many critics seems to like this movie, but it also has its downsides. Here are their reviews:

Metacritic: 56% (Reviewed by 36 critics)

User score: 7.1/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 64% (Reviewed by 125 critics)

Audience score: 77%

IMDb: 7.5/10 (159 critics/37,485 users)

Personal Rating:  70%   Recommend seeing it in theaters, but not worth buying.

Although I didn’t see the last thirty minutes of the movie, it was still a great film. While watching “The Maze Runner,” I felt like the film can be compared to reality because you’re trying to find a way out in life & try to survive. In the film, the characters are young males with no adult or guardian to support them. All the boys had to do was depend & work together to survive.

I totally agree, this film can compare to reality and the handwork on real life situations. Also, I recommend watching the ending it may leave you a little surprised.

I agree with your review on “The Maze Runner”. It was a fun and interesting movie that kept the viewer on their toes and eager to learn what the maze was all about. A good movie to watch on the weekend but not quite good enough to buy on DVD.
